Larsen Family of Chicago |
My Mother's Father was Albert Emmanuel Nelson. He was born in Phillips, Wisconsin on March 11, 1899. He married my Grandmother Helen Marie Larsen on June 25, 1919 in Chicago. They had six children. My Mother and her twin sister are the 4th and 5th children. Grandpa Nelson died on July 14, 1967. Grandma Nelson was born on January 23, 1900 in Chicago and died in Franklin Park, Il. on Oct. 22, 1997. Grandpa and Grandma and most of the family are buried in Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
My Grandfather and Grandmother Nelson first lived with his parents on Hutchinson Street in Chicago and then about 1923, Grandpa moved the Family to the small rural (at that time) suburb of Franklin Park. He built a house on Gustav Street where four of their six children were born including my Mother. The Nelson family of Franklin Park has always been very close. There are 18 Nelson cousins and most grew up in Franklin Park or nearby. I have very fond memories of large Thanksgiving and Christmas family gatherings. Grandpa and Grandma later moved to "out in the country" (at least it was in the 1960's) to Glen Ellyn. We used to love our frequent visits to Grandma and Grandpa's house. The neighbor had a chicken coop and they let us gather eggs. They also had a horse. We caught frogs in a nearby creek and there was a large side yard where we played games. My Mother and her three living sisters still live in Franklin Park today.
This site is a work in progress. I have much more to add later, much of it thanks to my Mother's cousin Bob Chase and an Ogren cousin Jackie Owen who did a wonderful job of collecting and publishing family history information on our Nelson and Ogren lines from Sweden. In the photo below, my Grandfather is Albert.

Both the Nelson and Ogren families are from Sweden. My Great Great Grandparents Magnus Nelson (originally Nielson) 1835-1918 and Christina Magnusdotter 1837-1914 were both born in the small village of Stora Kil (pronounced sheel) in the state of Varmland in the western part of Sweden near the Norweigen border. They had nine children, all born in Stora Kil and migrated to Price County, Wisconsin about 1880. They died and are buried in Hackett, Price County, Wisconsin. My Great Grandfather Adolph Nelson 1875-1951 was the next to youngest.
My Great Great Grandparents John Trulsson Ogren (originally Agren, the A with a dot above it - a unique Swedish letter) 1841-1908 and Anna Anderson 1842-1934 were both born in the Swedish state of Skona. John was a soldier. Long before John died in Sweden, all of his 8 surviving children began migrating to Chicago in America. After John's death, Great Great Grandmother Anna also came. My Great Grandmother Christine 1877-1945 was the 4th child.
Below is the wedding photo of my Great Great Grandparents Adolph Nelson and Christine Ogren, January 25, 1896.
